Special Guests: FTMC Welcomes Ukrainian Ambassador Olha Nikitchenko

The Center for Physical Sciences and Technology (FTMC) is expanding its international partnerships in the field of defence. On 20 January, we welcomed special guests – the Ambassador of Ukraine to Lithuania, Olha Nikitchenko, visited FTMC.

The meeting focused primarily on the real-world applicability of technologies in wartime conditions, as well as on talent exchange.

“Defence is our top priority. Ukraine is trying to share all the experience it has accumulated on the battlefield, and we hope this can be useful to others – although we sincerely wish that you will never have to face such circumstances,” said Ms Nikitchenko.

According to FTMC Deputy Director for Innovations and Development, Dr Reda Nausėdaitė, this partnership opens the door to testing technologies in real conditions:

“Our cooperation with Ukraine creates clear opportunities for joint project activities – from proof of concept studies to testing technologies in real-life application scenarios, which Ukrainian institutions can provide. In applied sciences, this is particularly important: value is demonstrated through applicability and practical results, rather than theoretical contribution alone.”

The FTMC management presented the guests – among whom were embassy secretaries Vladyslav Zozulia and Kostiantyn Bailov – with defence technologies currently under development at the Center. These include anti-radar textiles, solutions for drones, next-generation lasers for secure communications, and equipment for detecting ship radar signatures.

At the end of the visit, the parties agreed to seek concrete solutions for the implementation of joint defence projects and for the involvement of young specialists in FTMC activities.
