Scientists from the FTMC Department of Laser Technologies Visited Prestigious Universities in Japan
Scientists from the FTMC Department of Laser Technologies - Dr Evaldas Stankevičius, Dr Romualdas Trusovas, and PhD students Kernius Vilkevičius, Rodrigas Liudvinavičius, and Modestas Sadauskas - visited the Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology. During the visit, they met with the research group led by Professor Wakana Kubo. They became acquainted with their laboratory, where research is conducted on the application of nanostructures in photodetection.
On this occasion, a seminar was held during which FTMC representatives presented the department’s ongoing research in the fields of plasmonics and SSAIL technologies. Simply put, plasmonics explores how light interacts with metal surfaces, while SSAIL is a laser writing method that enables the simultaneous formation of highly precise and complex 3D microstructures on surfaces.
Additionally, the possibilities of preparing a joint project proposal under the Lithuania-Japan cooperation programme of the Research Council of Lithuania were discussed.
Another group of scientists including Dr Paulius Gečys, Dr Valdemar Stankevič, and Dr Juozas Dudutis visited the University of Tokyo. During their visit, they met with the research group led by Prof. Yusuke Ito, which conducts advanced research in the field of laser glass processing. Together with the professor, they discussed the latest scientific achievements in this field and considered the possibility of submitting a joint project proposal under the Lithuania-Japan cooperation programme.

Discussions also included the potential for internships at the University of Tokyo, and the group toured the university’s laser processing laboratories. During the meeting, FTMC’s Laser Microfabrication Laboratory presented its research activities.
FTMC scientists hope that these visits will lay a strong foundation for future cooperation, joint research projects, and international internships that will strengthen scientific partnerships between Lithuania and Japan.
