Head of the FTMC Department of Nanoengineering Welcomed Journalists from India
On July 18, FTMC welcomed Indian journalists Umashankar Singh (senior editor, New Delhi Television Ltd) and Srinjoy Chowdhury (senior editor, Times Now and The Economic Times) who are preparing a detailed story about Lithuania's scientific and innovation potential and possible future cooperation with Indian scientific institutions.
The guests visited Prof. Dr Edvinas Orentas, Head of the Department of Nanoengineering at FTMC, and took an interest in the research being conducted in the field of space medical chemistry in collaboration with the Lithuanian company Delta Biosciences.
During the visit, a unique mission to the International Space Station, launched by Delta Biosciences and the European Space Agency in 2026, was presented. During the mission, which will last 32 months, comprehensive research on the effects of radiation on pharmaceuticals and biochemical substances will be conducted for the first time. New radiation-protective formulations ( specific chemical compositions) and agents (active substances), packaging and medical technology solutions will also be tested.
The mission's academic partners include FTMC, the GSI Helmholtz Centre for Heavy Ion Research (Germany), radiation scientists from the German Space Agency, and other international scientific researchers and commercial partners.
