FTMC supports European organisations’ call to strengthen the future EU Research and Innovation Framework Programme FP10
As a member of the European Association of Research and Technology Organisations (EARTO), FTMC supports the joint declaration signed by 86 European research, innovation, and industry organisations, calling on European Union institutions to ensure ambitious funding for the future Research and Innovation Framework Programme FP10.
This initiative is important for both Lithuania and the FTMC community. FP10, which will succeed the current Horizon Europe programme after 2027, will shape Europe’s investments in research, international collaboration, advanced technology development, and innovation deployment over the coming decade.
The organisations signing the declaration highlight that Europe is facing growing competitiveness challenges. According to the European Competitiveness Report prepared by former European Central Bank President Mario Draghi, the European Union is falling behind major global competitors – the United States and China – in areas such as investment in research, innovation, and the development of advanced technologies.
According to the declaration’s authors, research, technology development, and innovation are among the key factors that can ensure Europe’s long-term economic growth, technological sovereignty, green and digital transformation, and societal well-being.
The organisations call on EU institutions to:
- significantly increase the FP10 budget for the 2028–2034 period;
- strengthen research and innovation-driven industrial competitiveness while maintaining close collaboration between science and business;
- support the entire research and innovation continuum – from fundamental research to technology deployment and scaling up;
- ensure strong synergies between FP10 and the European Competitiveness Fund (ECF) to more effectively support Europe’s strategic technologies and industries.
FTMC researchers actively participate in European research and innovation programmes, collaborate with international partners, and contribute to the development of new technologies. Therefore, decisions regarding the scope and priorities of FP10 will directly influence future research and innovation opportunities both in Lithuania and across Europe.
In the coming months, EU institutions will make important decisions regarding FP10 and the European Competitiveness Fund. The organisations behind the declaration emphasise that the choices being made today will determine Europe’s ability to remain a global leader in science, technology, and innovation for decades to come.
