FTMC Showcases Defence Innovation to the Chief of Defence of the Republic of Lithuania.

On 13 May, the international defence industry conference “DAIMEX Baltic 2026” took place at the General Silvestras Žukauskas Training Area. The event brought together more than 2,000 representatives from politics, the military, defence technology, and business sectors from 30 countries.

Among the participants were FTMC Advisor to the Director, Colonel Darius Petryla and Prof. Dr Habil. Saulius Balevicius, a researcher from the FTMC Department of Functional Materials and Electronics. They presented a prototype of a 120 mm mortar shell velocity measuring device developed by FTMC.

This device can be adapted for mortars of various designs and is capable of measuring the maximum velocity of different types of mortar shells. The FTMC invention enables rapid determination of firing trajectory angles based on target coordinates, evaluation of firing series effectiveness, and assessment of both the propellant charge and the quality of the mortar barrel.

The development of the device is being carried out in cooperation with the Lithuanian Armed Forces under projects funded by the Innovation Agency Lithuania and the Research Council of Lithuania.
