Representatives of the Kazakhstan Academy of Sciences visit FTMC

On 18 September, we welcomed guests from Kazakhstan. The President of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Kunsulu Zakarya, and the Vice President, Lyazzat Yeraliyeva, visited FTMC.
Prof. Zenonas Dabkevičius, Vice President of the Lithuanian Academy of Sciences, was also present.
Prof. Rimantas Ramanauskas, Deputy Director of FTMC, presented the work and mission of our Center, and Prof. Aidas Matijošius, Dean of the Faculty of Physics of Vilnius University, spoke about the activities of his Faculty.
Dr. Algirdas Pabedinskas, a FTMC scientist at the Department of Nuclear Research, then showed the guests around the Accelerator Mass Spectrometry Laboratory. It houses impressive radiocarbon dating equipment, which allows the age of archaeological and geological samples up to 50,000 years old to be determined quite accurately.

The delegation visited other research institutions during these days, and the highlight of the visit to Lithuania took place today, 19 September, when the Lithuanian Academy of Sciences and the Kazakhstan Academy of Sciences signed the the Memorandum of Cooperation.
