The Centre for Physical Sciences and Technology (FTMC) is one of the largest research institutions in the Baltic States, internationally recognised and pursuing an ambitious goal – to be among the best in the world. At this Centre, scientists in physics, chemistry and materials engineering are creating success stories for themselves and for Lithuania.
You too can join the FTMC team in these ways:
- Study placements. We do not run bachelor’s or master’s degree programmes, but we invite students at these levels (from their very first year) to undertake placements with FTMC’s top-level scientists. Placements take place in the summer – July–August – or during the semester by carrying out research (lasting about seven months). In both cases it is possible to receive a Lithuanian Research Council scholarship or to undertake a voluntary placement at FTMC.
- Supervision of bachelor’s and master’s theses. If you are studying physics, chemistry or materials engineering, you can contact us about doing your final research project here. We cooperate with various higher education institutions – so don’t miss this opportunity either!
- Voluntary activity. There is another way to see first-hand what we do and try your hand at it – by coming to work with us unpaid for two months. Are you a school pupil (you must be at least 14), a student, an employee, or someone who has simply decided not to enrol anywhere this year? Join our team – who knows, this experience might inspire you to become a scientist!
- Doctoral studies. Every year we offer more than 50 different doctoral research topics. Follow FTMC news and watch out for information about the entrance competition!
A special invitation from our chemists! The FTMC Catalysis Department has an offer for you: even if you’re not a natural sciences specialist or plan to study something completely unrelated to chemistry (for example, art, journalism or history), we invite you to come and discover the fascinating world of chemistry. The conditions are as set out in the Voluntary Activity Agreement already mentioned: we take on a school pupil, a student or any curious young person for two months.
Here you will gain new skills and experience of working as a scientist: preparing solutions, making various materials, learning to characterise and use those materials in different studies – fuel cells, hydrogen production or surface metallisation. You will learn how to use a special microscope and other equipment. A friendly, inspiring team will be there to support you in every way.
