Speaker – Dr Aliasger Salem, Vice President for Research at the University of Iowa and the Bighley Endowed Chair Professor of Pharmaceutical Sciences at the University of Iowa College of Pharmacy. Dr Salem is an internationally recognized scientist whose research focuses on nanotechnology, drug delivery systems, gene therapy, and vaccine development. He is also actively involved in biotechnology innovation and the creation of start-up companies.
The goal of the lecture is to provide scientists, doctoral researchers, and students with a practical perspective on how scientific discoveries can be translated into new therapies, technologies, and companies, opening new frontiers for biotechnology.
The lecture will explore how fundamental discoveries in pharmaceutical sciences can be transformed into real-world therapies, technologies, and innovative companies. Drawing on his experience developing advanced drug delivery systems and founding biotechnology start-ups, Dr. Aliasger Salem will discuss practical approaches for moving academic research from laboratory discoveries to technology commercialization and societal impact. The lecture will also address the “blockbuster drug” framework for identifying research directions with high therapeutic and commercial potential.
