The article (Novikau et al., 2022) by our colleagues Dr. Raman Novikau and Dr. Galina Lujanienė from Department of Environmental Research was recently recognized as highly cited paper received enough citations to place it in the TOP 1% of the academic field of Environment and Ecology! This list of the world's articles is published by the Web of Science database.

The paper is published in the Journal of Environmental Management 'Adsorption behaviour of pollutants: Heavy metals, radionuclides, organic pollutants, on clays and their minerals (raw, modified and treated): A review'.

We take great pride in the accomplishments of our colleagues!

The level of environmental protection can be maximised through the selection of the most efficient, available, cheap, recyclable, and eco-friendly adsorbents. Consequently, various methods of removing pollutants from effluents have been developed and used to minimise this negative impact, with adsorption on clay minerals identified as the most promising approach.

This review examines the adsorption of heavy metals, radionuclides, and organic pollutants on clays/clay minerals and their composites under diverse conditions and deals with the applications of these materials in the construction of engineering barriers for waste management.

Chemical methods rely on precipitation, flocculation, coagulation, oxidation, and electroflotation, while physical methods employ adsorption, reverse osmosis, electrodialysis, membrane filtration, and nanofiltration. Among these methods, physical ones, particularly those based on adsorption, hold the greatest promise.

Furthermore, it is worth noting that this paper was ranked number one in the Web of Science report out of the 14 FTMC articles that were included in this list of the Year 2023.

One of them is the Hot Paper, as it was among the 0.1% most cited papers in its field (Physics) in the last six months. This is a review paper on the strategy for terahertz science and technology (Leitenstorfer et al. 2023), co-authored by Prof. Gintaras Valušis, Head of the Department of Optoelectronics at FTMC, and written by various scientists around the world. The article is published in the Journal of Physics D: Applied Physics.
